In the Montes de María, a region affected by violence, Yam has become a symbol of hope thanks to a partnership between the Navy, local farmers, and entrepreneurs.
Many proudly say that the best Yam in the world is produced in the Montes de María, but there is no doubt that the way it is being cultivated is exemplary. Los Informantes reported on a collaboration that is going far: the Navy, the local military authority, entrepreneurs, and farmers working together to bring hope to a land that was once a victim of violence, where now Yam serves as a source of sustenance and opportunity.
«Yam has historically been the most cultivated and exported product from the Montes de María, thanks to the region’s geographical characteristics and many thermal zones… they are grown using ancestral techniques,» said Toy Keneth Narváez, a Navy non-commissioned officer.
